The Tilnar Cycle Challenge for PaR

The Tilnar Cycle Challenge, brain-child of Tom Hawes, looks set to become a national sports event taking place on a single day each year with participants raising sponsorship for their chosen charities.

This year, the event will take place on 20th June, the final Saturday of National Cycle Week. The aim is to ride as many miles as possible within a 15 hour time frame (6am - 9pm).

If you are fitness enthusiast, it will be a chance to compare your cycling endurance to all other participants one day each year. You can choose to start and finish anytime within the time limits and follow your own route.

If you are a causal cyclist, it can be as a social day with a leisurely start time finishing at somewhere like your local pub. It will be an opportunity to have an enjoyable cycle, at your own pace, whilst raising funds for your chosen charity.

The entrance fee is £12.95 with £9 going to the charity that the entrant selects.

Wine Tasting

Wine Tasting on 6 February was such a success that we have decided to repeat the event on 15 May at 7.30pm at St Stephens.

The wines will be different but the person leading event will be the same.

The event will follow the same format with some additional games.

Tickets for the event can be bought on the Porridge and Rice Home page.

New Desks

Each of the three PaR schools has received 10 new desks so far this year.

Each school needs more, and the plan is to buy them in batches of 10 as the funds become available.

We hope to have enough money to fund 10 more desks for each school in May.

A minimum of another 45 desks will be needed after the May desks have been purchased.

Sponsorship

Some parents are unable to pay schools fees for a range of reasons from ill health to unemployment.

The Porridge and Rice scholarship program covers the fees of 32 children currently rising to 48 at the end of May.

Not only must there be a genuine need for the children to qualify, but parents must work at PaR schools for at least two days a week to earn payment of their child's fees.

Hands Fair on Twickenham Green

On the Bank Holiday Monday May 26th 2015 the annual HANDS Charities Fair will take place on Twickenham Green from 10am to 3pm. Porridge and Rice will have a stand making balloon animals and with smalls animals like rabbits, guinea pigs, and chickens to pet.

There will be over 75 charity stalls selling crafts, plants, gifts, bric-a-brac, toys, children's clothes, home-made cakes and refreshments, and a barbecue. There will be plenty of interests to adults and children. It promises to be an excellent day.

Parents help with a wide range of tasks at each school from cooking, cleaning, and serving each day thus freeing up teachers to focus on activities like marking.

Friends of Murray Park

Porridge and Rice will have a stand at the Friends of Murray Park fun day on Saturday 4 July to promote its work.

It will be an entertaining day for the whole family with events like a dog show, a tag rugby tournament, and a bouncy castle.

Car Boot Sales

We sell at one or two car boot sales a month all year around. After a cold winter, we are back selling at Apps Court Farm.

If you have items that would like to donate for PaR to sell at car boot sales, please email us info@porridgeandrice.co.uk. Thank you in advance.

Visit the PaR Facebook page for more pictures and details about the work done by PaR.
